Potassium Matters

Managing potassium levels is important for people living with kidney disease. We’ve worked with CSL Vifor to develop the following Potassium Matters resources to highlight the importance of managing potassium as part of a balanced diet for those who have or have had high levels of potassium in their blood (hyperkalaemia). The Potassium Matters resources have been initiated and funded by CSL Vifor and developed with input from the National Kidney Federation, Pumping Marvellous Foundation, Joanna Pulman a Kidney Dietitian and Gillian King who lives with Chronic Kidney Disease.

View the Potassium Matters leaflet here

This leaflet explains why managing potassium levels when living with kidney disease is so important. Find out more about hyperkalaemia (high potassium) – what causes it, why it’s important – and tips to support management of potassium levels through food choices. The leaflet includes recipes along with tables of high potassium and low potassium foods that may help you when making food choices, but it is important to remember that portion size impacts intake. View the leaflet here.

Cook and Conversation

Join Gillian, who lives with chronic kidney disease and has had hyperkalaemia, and Joanna Pulman, a kidney dietitian, as they cook some low potassium recipes. You can hear from Gillian about her experiences adapting her diet following her diagnosis as well as eating with and being supported by family and friends. Gillian and Joanna also explore the importance of individualised diet management, as well as some great tips for food preparation!

If the recipes cooked in the video take your fancy, you can find them in the above Potassium Matters leaflet.

The Potassium Matters resources have been initiated and funded by CSL Vifor. The National Kidney Federation and CSL Vifor cannot accept responsibility for information provided.
