National Kidney Federation calls on local runners to take on iconic regional races The National Kidney Federation (NKF) is encouraging keen runners from across the East Midlands to lace up their trainers and support the kidney community by taking part in a series of popular running events. The charity has partnered with Run for Charity to offer discounted places in a range of events, giving supporters the opportunity to raise vital funds while taking on a personal challenge. Runners can choose from several events in Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire, including: Nottingham Running Festival (5K, 10K and Half Marathon) – Colwick Park, Sunday 30 August 2026 Derbyshire Dales Trail Run (9K, 12K and 15K) – Bakewell, Sunday 13 September 2026 Robin Hood Half Marathon – Victoria Embankment, Nottingham, Sunday 27 September 2026 Lincoln Half Marathon – Lincolnshire Showground, Sunday 4 October 2026 Leicester 10K – Jubilee Square, Sunday 7 February 2027 The NKF, based at The Point in Shireoaks, Worksop, is the UK's largest kidney patient charity, run by kidney patients for kidney patients. It provides information, support and advocates for change on behalf of people affected by kidney disease across the UK. All the funds raised will help the charity continue delivering its free-to-call National Helpline and Information Service and peer support service, which costs £100,000 a year to operate. It has already supported more than 1,600 people this year. Pete Revell, Chief Executive of the National Kidney Federation, said: "Whether you've recently caught the running bug, are already a keen runner, want to run with friends, family or colleagues, or simply challenge yourself to achieve a personal best, we'd love to have you on our team. “You might want to run to celebrate a transplant anniversary, in memory of a loved one, or to show solidarity with someone on dialysis or waiting for a transplant. Together, we can really make a difference to their lives. “We’re a small but ambitious national charity with just 12 team members. Every penny you raise will help us to do more for the UK’s kidney community who are at the heart of everything we do. Your support will mean that no one needs to face kidney disease alone. “We have five discounted places available for each event, many of which have sold out – your only chance to take part is for a charity like us.” To register, or for more information, contact fundraiser Suzanne Rutter on [email protected] or call 01909 544990.
