The National Kidney Federation will host an Annual Patients’ Event on Friday 22nd - Saturday 23rd September to celebrate their 45th anniversary and to raise awareness of the support that is available to patients and families.

With an estimated 3.5 million people living in the UK with kidney disease (this represents people at stages 3 to 5 CKD), the National Kidney Federation are a lifeline of support and hope to patients and families.

In the past few years, the event has been organised as a virtual event. However, this year it is making a comeback as an in-person event since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The popular weekend will bring together those affected by kidney disease from all around the UK to the venue of Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport.

The event will be joined by well-respected healthcare professionals within the renal world including, Dr Sharlene Greenwood, Consultant Physiotherapist at King’s College Hospital, Dr Aurangzaib Khawaja, Vascular Surgeon at University Birmingham Hospital, Tess Harris, Chief Executive of Polycystic Kidney Disease Charity, Professor David Wheeler, Professor of Kidney Medicine, Daljit Bains, Welfare Rights Officer for Renal, Stephen Cass, London Kidney Network Director, Vicky Ashworth, North West Kidney Network Lead and Andrew McAllister.

Guests will hear insights into living with kidney disease, ways to keep fit with physical activity, a patient’s perspective of chronic kidney disease and the power of positivity, benefits advice and also information surrounding regional kidney networks and much more. The talks will provide an umbrella of support and findings.

NKF Chief Executive, Andrea Brown said; “We are delighted to bring back the NKF Annual Patients’ Event this year as a face-to-face event. We only hold this event once a year and it opens many opportunities to kidney patients and families to network with others who may be in a similar situation to them, whether that be as a dialysis or transplant patient, a family member or carer affected by kidney disease. We look forward to the weekend and hope that our guests take something away from the event that they find useful and informative.”
