“My name is Liam Innes, and I received a life-saving kidney transplant on 23rd June 2013. As I approach the eighth anniversary of my transplant, I wanted to share my story with the National Kidney Federation and express my gratitude to my donor and their family.

I received a kidney transplant from a deceased donor whom I have never met, but who has had a profound impact on my life. Their selfless decision to donate their organs during such a challenging time has allowed me to live a full and healthy life, pursue my passions, and spend time with my loved ones. I am forever grateful for the gift of life they have given me.

As the years have passed, my transplanted kidney has aged, but it is still functioning well and allowing me to live my best life. I know that eventually, I will need another transplant, but for now, I am focused on making the most of every day and living life to the fullest.

On this year’s anniversary, I am reminded of the importance of organ donation and the impact it can have on the lives of those in need. I hope that my story inspires others to consider becoming organ donors and to have conversations with their loved ones about their wishes.

To my donor and their family: I want to express my deepest gratitude for your gift of life. Though we have never met, your generosity has given me a second chance, and I will never forget the impact you have had on my life. Thank you, and here's to many more healthy and happy years to come.

In honour of my donor and their family, I am also donating to a charity that means a lot to me. I want to give back in any way I can and continue to make positive changes in the lives of those who need transplants.

Thank you to the National Kidney Federation for allowing me to share my story a couple years back, and for helping to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation.”
