A message from George Freeman MP, Minister for Life Sciences.
To Conference delegates and the wider health audience.
As you know, I am committed to and have been working towards giving medical research charities and patient groups a much stronger voice in the 21st Century Life Sciences landscape. With that in mind I thought you might like sight of a major speech I gave to the AMRC recently, setting out the Government’s vision for patient power, the next stage of the Life Sciences mission and how Government is working to support medical research charities and continuing to drive through reforms on this agenda, investing in genomics, digital and data to make the UK the best place on earth to develop healthcare innovations.
With the final report of the Accelerated Access Review due in the Spring, and with ongoing work on my NHS Test Beds scheme and the digitalisation of the NHS, I think this year could be a landmark for the Strategy and for the vision we have all worked for.
Indeed, I am delighted to report that since the AMRC conference we have had a successful Summit on Accelerated Access and “Philanthropharma” with the US Faster Cures Campaign; and held a very well attended medical research charity roundtable in the Department of Health.
