UK Kidney Patients respond to the Press announcement from NHS Blood and Transplant
NKF (National Kidney Federation) welcomes the news that the 50% target has been achieved.
Kirit Modi, Chairman of NKF, said: I would like to congratulate everyone involved in achieving this target, particularly the staff working in our hospitals and thank the families of all those who supported the decision of their loved ones to donate. However, the increase in transplants has not matched the increase in donations and we have a lot more to do in order to become world class in transplantation. We can save more lives as well as money by increasing transplantation.
The NKF is urging appropriate Ministers in the four UK Governments to support a doubling of the number of transplants in the new Transplant 2020 strategy which they are considering at present. The NKF will, of course, continue to do all it can to support kidney patients waiting for a transplant throughout the country
