Minister agrees to meet MP’s

from the All Party Parliamentary Kidney Group (APPKG) to discuss commissioning concerns.

During Health Service questions in the House of commons,  Madeline Moon MP ( Joint chair of the APPKG)  and Yasmin Qureshi MP ( Joint Vice Chair of the APPKG ) expressed concerns to the Secretary of State for Health - Jeremy Hunt MP, about the proposal to move dialysis from being a specialised commissioned service  - to level three where it would be a service commissioned by CCG’s ( GP practices )

The Secretary of State responding to those concerns then agreed that a member of his Ministerial team would meet with the APPKG to discuss the matter further.

As the Secretariat of the APPKG, the NKF has now arranged this meeting to take place in the House of Commons on 7th January 2015.  As well as the 129 MP’s and Lords who are members of the APPKG, the NKF has extended invitations to other concerned renal stakeholders to attend.

The Rt Hon the Earl Howe P.C. Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Quality ( Lords) has agreed to be present.

The NKF will shortly be making a submission to the Department of Health arguing that these proposed changes should not go ahead in April 2015, and that further consultation needs to take place. The submission includes in its arguments the feedback received from KPA’s and patients who responded to the NKF briefing paper recently distributed.  Thank you to all those who responded – none of the feedback received supported the proposed changes.
