General & Haemodialysis Hints & Tips
Text Only version
These hints and tips are taken from TalkLine and past issues of Kidneytastic.
Many thanks to all those who’ve contributed, we would love to hear more so keep them coming either by post or going to the ‘Contact Us’ webpage (see the graphic/link on the left) with the subject ‘Top Tips’. Here are a few …..
- Many people have spoken about how talking to someone else eases a problem. The old adage of ‘a problem shared is a problem halved’ seems to hold true by some of the comments seen on the YPG area of TalkLine. You are not the only one, so go on, it helps.
- “It makes me feel a lot better knowing that there are others out there in the same place I am”?
- For dialysis and clinic visits, place cans or small drinks in a freezer compartment for up to one hour (NOT longer) prior to dialysis. They will remain ice cold for several hours till consumed, longer if stored in a small cool pouch for transport. This is also a good idea if you have to stick to a fluid allowance, ice cold drinks last longer and quench thirst more effectively.
- If you have a personal music player (cassette, cd or other device), invest in a good quality pair of headphones separately. For £20 – £30 a quality pair of ‘closed’ headphones will allow you to enjoy your chosen music far better than the ones that came with the player. It also means that those around you won’t be able to hear or complain about your taste in music either!
