Fluid Tips
Text Only version

When you first start your fluid allowance it seems that all anyone does is drink. Everywhere you go the first thing you are offered is a cup of tea! It is hard for other people to understand that you are only allowed a certain amount of fluid a day and so you have to have tremendous willpower and learn to say NO.
- When out and about ask for half a cup or a small glass and remember you don't have to drink it all.
- Go for diet soft drinks as sugar can make you thirsty and always add ice as cold drinks last longer.
- When at home buy yourself some smaller glasses and mugs. These days they all come in a variety of sizes and smaller glasses mean you can have a whole cup instead of half without going over your allowance.
- Measure the cups and glasses in your home so you know how much they each hold.
- Keep cold drinks and even a bottle of tap water in the fridge as cold drinks can be more thirst quenching.
- For hot days when you are especially thirsty crushed ice with a slice of lemon can be very refreshing.
