Holland is a great place for renal patients to have a holiday. The Gran Dorado in Port Zeeland, on the south coast of Holland is the Dutch equivalent of Centre Parcs. It is great for families and large groups. They have good sports facilities, various restaurants and a lovely beach nearby. There is plenty for children to do, such as bowling water activities and burger bars, however it doesn’t offer much for young singles in the way of pubs and clubs. I would suggest they find accommodation off the site and travel there to use the dialysis facilities.
The dialysis facilities at the Gran Dorado are excellent, one of the holiday bungalows in the heart of the complex is converted to a dialysis unit. It is very small and holds around six patients at a time, therefore patients get any attention that might be needed.
The staff speak fluently in several languages which makes you clearly understood. All the windows in the dialysis unit are customized to allow you to look out onto the relaxing view over the harbour, but prevents people looking in at you allowing maximum privacy during your treatment.
Many English patients return each year because they enjoy it so much and think that the dialysis facilities are fantastic. I would recommend the Gran Dorado to anyone who is looking for a family holiday or a relaxing break. (If you are thinking of going to Holland to dialyse I suggest you take your own EMLA cream or lignocane with you as they don’t use it, I found out the hard way!)
