Useful Links

The National Kidney Federation web site was launched at the NKF conference in July 1999. Since that time it has grown to over 300 pages of news and medical information. A number of changes have recently been made to the site with the aim of making it easier for you, the site visitor, to find the information you are looking for. Below is a brief summary of these changes; for a more detailed description of this web site and the information it contains, go to the ‘About the NKF web site’ page.

The site has now been split into 5 zones: Main, Medical Information, Living Donor Information, Talkline and Local Groups. The main (or home) pages of each zone now have links to each other to enable you to move around the site quickly.

Home Page (Main Zone)

The Home Page has been redesigned with the addition of a Search function and links (the large buttons on the left) to other site zones. The smaller, horizontal buttons which used to be on the left of the page have been moved to the right and some new buttons added. These horizontal buttons link to pages in the main zone which mainly covers the NKF’s activities of providing information and campaigning for better renal services in the UK.

The news ticker in the top left will hopefully supply you with useful snippets of information as you enter the site.

Medical Information Zone

This is a rapidly growing area and the main (or home) page has been redesigned to make the information more accessible through the use of the search engine. To use the Search engine, enter a keyword of your choice in the box and click on the search button.

Living Donor Information

This zone aims to provide information about living kidney donation. During 2001 the NKF aims to raise the profile of this means of transplantation. New pages will be added throughout the year as the campaign progresses.

Talkline and Local Groups Zones

These are largely the same as before except that the Local Groups Zone has been renamed from the KPA area and they both have links to the other zones.

What’s New pages

Our research showed that very few visitors used the Medical Information What’s New page, despite the medical information being the most popular area. That page has therefore been amalgamated with the main What’s New page. However, medical and other information have been differentiated by the use of different coloured buttons (orange for medical pages and blue for all other pages).

The Future

Over the coming months we hope to implement 2 new areas: a Kids area and a Living Transplant area. The holidays page will also be redesigned and we are requesting accounts of any holidays enjoyed by dialysis patients and their carers. If you fall into this group and have been on holiday this year (within the UK or abroad) then please let us know if you are willing to write a short piece about your experiences - good or bad.

Finally, if you have any comments about the changes that have been made or ideas for future changes, please let us know by emailing the webmaster

Thankyou for visiting the NKF web site.
