A team of nephrologists in Miami believe they have found a cause of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS).

They claim results published in Nature Medicine on 31 July 2011 demonstrate “a soluble form of the urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) is a factor in triggering glomerular kidney disease.” and that this discovery will lead to a revolution in diagnosis and treatment for people with this form of kidney disease.
