Urinary Tract Infection in Children

WILL MY CHILD’S KIDNEYS BE DAMAGED BY THE URINARY INFECTION?

Urinary tract infection in children is quite common but fortunately the majority of children do not have any long term damage, especially if the infection only involves the bladder. Only a few children have long term damage to their kidneys and it is important that the doctor sees your child again if recurrent urinary infections are suspected or if an abnormality turns up on the initial ultrasound test. Otherwise your child will be seen for a review on a routine basis.
