The NKF Holiday Pages —...I went to Crete last year with my husband Chris for our honeymoon. It was our first time abroad and I was really nervous. Crete was recommended to us especially as transport was included from our hotel to the dialysis unit.
When I arrived at the hotel I had a fax waiting for me confirming what time I was being picked up to take me to the unit. The private taxi was always on time and it picked up other patients on the way as well. The unit was very modern and comfortable and there was a pool and cafe which my husband was able to use whilst I was on the machine. Maria was in charge, looking after all the patients, meeting and greeting and she always went out of her way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. All staff are fluent in several languages and they also run tourist excursion trips as well so can advise you on your holiday requirements as well.
The machines are new and up to date and there was always a doctor there at every session. I was offered drinks and snacks and there was a beautiful view of the mountains from all seats in the unit.
All my fears of going abroad have now been forgotten and we are now planning on going back again next year. This is a brilliant unit for first timers especially and Crete is such a beautiful country and would recommend to anyone. There is lots to do and the beaches are beautiful.
