After a 45-minute flight from Newcastle to Gatwick, a CAPD exchange had been arranged at the medical room, at a charge of £10. It transpired that this was because it was run as a private clinic. On the return flight from Funchal, I was “put wise” by one of the most helpful porters we met, who directed me to the North Terminal Port Health Authority facility were I was charged nothing!
We had a beautiful apartment in Madeira with a balcony overlooking Funchal harbour. My dialysis fluid was all there, stacked in a corner, and all was well, apart, that is, when I searched my bag for the Hibisol - it wasn’t there! I’d left it behind at Gatwick Medical Room, hadn’t I? Time for improvisation, and with care I used IMS Fluid for the fortnight - no problem. A fortnight of sunshine and scenery full of interest, not forgetting the toboggan ride at Monte, the beautiful sea cruise where we encountered a school of dolphins, and all the wonderful help of the porters en route through the airports.
