If you have a medical condition which has become worse since your licence was issued or you develop a new medical condition, the DVLA say you must write and inform their Drivers Medical Unit of the nature of your condition, as it may affect your fitness to drive. Failure to do so can be a criminal offence punishable by a fine of up to £1,000.
