Maggie Loughran

Maggie Loughran, the third patient speaker, has first hand knowledge of diabetes leading to kidney failure. From the age of ten for 27 years Maggie had diabetes. She suffered kidney failure due to the diabetes and was on dialysis for two years. After recovering from a stroke she went on to have a kidney and pancreas transplant in December 2000. Three years later she took up a post with Guy’s & St Thomas’s KPA as Renal Information and Development Officer. At the Conference she recounted the story of her illness. She finished with the thought:

Maggie Loughran, 8K

“It has always worked for me to find out where I am, to question and challenge the things that are happening to me. It is my good fortune that the people looking after me and around me allow me this freedom.”
