Christine Gleadell - Blood, Sweat and Cheers - Adventures on Group Patient Holidays

Please note, this page is a summary of the full conference speech (click here for the full transcript).

Christine Gleadell

Christine from Freedom Apartments and Travel is no stranger to the NKF conference - presenting a workshop on holidays for kidney patients at Blackpool last year. This year, Chris organised a group trip offered to dialysis patients throughout the whole of the UK. The aim was to encourage and show patients and carers that taking a holiday is easy to do, and what a positive effect recharging batteries has. She described how Jean Aplin last year asked her to arrange a holiday for all kidney patients, which was launched at the 2003 conference. Crete was the chosen destination and Mesogeios the dialysis centre. It had opened in November 2000, the long held dream of nephrologist Demetris Demitriardis to create something very special for dialysis patients. Under the title Blood, Sweat and Cheers, she gave a vivid account of the holiday.
