Aiming for Gold is
a celebration of 25 years of the NKF, but with an eye on the
future, looking towards achieving
gold standards in the treatment of renal disease. The programme
reflects that theme with something of interest for everyone. Jane
Verity DOH will attempt to answer the question “The Renal
NSF – Will It Work” whilst Richard Gardner, Henry Dale
Research Professor at the University of Oxford and an expert on
stem cell research will present “Options – What Does
the Future Hold?” Michael Nicholson, Professor of Transplant
Surgery, Leicester General Hospital will be talking on the “Laparoscopic
Removal of Kidneys for Live Donation” and in her talk “Peritoneal
Dialysis – Past, Present & Future”, Jackie Campbell,
PD Clinical Specialist, will outline the history and advances in
peritoneal dialysis.
Other presentations feature “Predialysis” and “Non-Heart
Beating Donation”. The favourable response to last year’s
patient speakers will be followed up this year with presentations
by patients who have achieved in spite of or as a result of their
renal condition. There will be a morning and afternoon question
time.
Sunday morning workshops led
by Sara Tyler “Young Persons
Group” and Chris Gleadell on “Holidays” will
also be held.
A Friday evening
workshop on “Commissioning of Renal Services” will
be run by Roger Greenwood, Renal Clinical Director at the Lister
Hospital, Stevenage. In the present climate, it is vitally important
that all opportunities to educate patients on commissioning of
renal services should be taken. This workshop will be of particular
interest to all those patients who represent their KPA on commissioning
groups or who are willing to get involved in their local commissioning
processes in the future. If you would like to attend please tick
the relevant box on the booking form.
