Haemodialysis Patient Transport

The NKF has campaigned tirelessly for improved Transport services for Haemodialysis patients throughout the United Kingdom, and was well represented at a meeting on 25th October 2006,  hosted by the UK Department of Health, at which all the relevant issues were discussed.

The NKF was pleased to note that Cheshire and Merseyside have also taken a lead on this subject and links are provided here to two reports from them and to their own website.  Decisions about transport needs elsewhere are likely to be made at a local level, and kidney patients might find it helpful to download these reports and take them to relevant meetings in order to support their demands.

Cheshire and Merseyside have also published a patient leaflet Transport information for Renal Patients - September 2007 ( , 2 pages, 1.6 Mb). All Kidney Patients should print it out and make its content known in all renal units. Extra copies should be placed in renal waiting areas. All KPAs should be fully conversant with the content of the leaflet.
